Strong enough to practice

“I want to evaluate an unfamiliar AI workflow, identify where human judgment is required, and explain my decision without borrowing the vendor's language.”

The stronger version names an observable capability, survives a tool change, and returns judgment to the learner.

Use this test whenever a new technology makes you feel behind: ask whether you need more information, more guided practice, or a deeper foundation. Those are different educational problems.

Professional example

A manager who can repeat automation advice has exposure. A manager who can map the workflow, locate the judgment call, and defend what should remain human has a foundation.

Clinician example

A therapist who can quote a vendor's AI claims has exposure. A therapist who can inspect the workflow, identify where clinical judgment remains necessary, and explain the boundary in plain language has a foundation.
